Organising a meet

Just a follow up from Mark’s post about organising a meet, if anyone wants to use Beudy Mawr as a base, Steve Gregory and myself are more than happy to help. If you wanted it to be part of the Club’s Outdoor Meets programme, the best place to start is by contacting Helen Pritchard who can best advise on available dates within the programme. Alternatively, if you wanted to dip a toe in the water, just look at the programme to make sure there are no clashes, and then book with me. You can publicise the meet on the website, the Club’s Facebook page and through Meetstaff. Or you can get a few mates together and do it a bit less formally. If you haven’t been to Beudy before, I can ‘walk’ you through the place, although everything is pretty straightforward. You can decide how you want to run things – have a focus (walking, climbing, running, cycling, etc) or not (people do as they please), organise an evening meal (always good fun around the table) or not, invite families (or not, although the last couple of times I’ve been to Beudy there have been kids there and they have[…]

Beudy Mawr – 75th anniversary weekend – 2 to 4 June

The Club acquired Beudy in 1948, initially on a lease at £8 per annum rent. In 2023, £8 will allow a Member to stay in the hut for one night! To mark the 75th anniversary, the Wardens have decided to postpone the working meet on the weekend of 2 to 4 June and, instead, a weekend of activities and festivities. It is very much a ‘do as you please’ weekend. There will be a Saturday evening anniversary dinner provided by the Wardens and Granville. Apart from that you will need to look after yourselves. Places are going fast – if you want to come, contact Bill Deakin.

Beudy bookings update

Beudy is busy this coming Bank Holiday weekend – at the moment there are 3 bunks left. Plenty of space in early May (at present, only one person in over the Coronation weekend!) but things are a little busier towards the end of the month. The 75th anniversary meet (2-4 June) is filling up now but apart from Veterans in Sefton who have booked the hut 21 – 23, the rest of June is essentially free. Likewise for the first two weeks in July. It is easy to check on availability now – just log into the Members section of the website. Click on ‘Huts’ on the top line and then when the page appears, click on the ‘hut availability’ box. Hover over a date and this shows you who has booked and for how many spaces. Simples. To make a booking contact me by email please.

Beudy bookings update

For those of you who look at the hut the bookings calendar on the website, you will know exactly what is going on. For those of you who don’t/won’t/can’t look, here’s what is happening over the next couple of months. Apart from Steve Gregory, the hut looks like it’s empty over the Easter weekend, with a couple of people arriving on Easter Monday for a few days. From the 19th to the 23rd April, the hut is full (Veterans in Sefton and OBEC). Rae Pritchard’s Barmouth – Aber Meet is on the following weekend. In May, various parties have booked but there is always room for a few more apart from the17th to the 19th, when Veterans in Sefton are using the hut. In June, apart from the 75th birthday meet on the 2nd to the 4th, and the 21st to the 23rd (the Veterans again), the hut is empty at present. As ever, please let me or Steve Gregory know if you want to make a booking.

Hut bookings – important update

In response to comments made in the recent Member’s survey about the information available about bookings (or the lack of it), the hut bookings calendars for Beudy Mawr and High Moss have had a bit of a technical ‘tweak’. You can now go to the calendars and hover or click on a date with any kind of booking and, as if by magic, a box will appear giving more information about that booking. If you want to make a booking, simply contact Bill Deakin or Steve Beswick as appropriate. The situation at Craigallan is different. John Patrick has kindly provided the following information so that Members may understand why. Craigallan Hut Booking Arrangements I have decided not to attempt to put Craigallan bookings on the website page primarily because I know that I would be unable to maintain the accuracy of the information. When the hut is busy, as it is this winter, there are frequent changes due to weather related decisions, alterations in group numbers and last minute enquiries. There are often multiple e-mail exchanges to sort out individual bookings over a few days so arrangements are continuously changing. In particular, I try to negotiate with those in charge[…]

Big team in this coming weekend (25th/26th) – Will Pitt with 11 others.
