Beudy Mawr – Breaking news!

Sit down while you read this. Steve G and I have decided to reintroduce tea towels in the hut. We knew you would be pleased to hear the news. There will be a supply of tea towels in one of the kitchen cupboards. Used tea towels can be put in a pedal bin in the washroom area. Get yourselves to Beudy as soon as you can to enjoy washing up again!

Beudy bookings update

This is how its looking over the next few weeks. A decent forecast for this weekend (9/10) is bringing people out. Ten spaces have been booked up to now. The Climbers Club have booked the hut for the next weekend (15/16) – this is for one of their club meets while Ynnys Ettwys is closed for refurbishment. The hut is also full the following weekend (23/24) – Peak MC have booked the main dorm and Rachel Johnson (6) will be using the other bedroom. Veterans in Sefton are running a group session in the week (25-27) and then Granville Toyn is taking the hut over for a ‘significant’ birthday celebration the weekend after (28- 1 October). In October, York MC have booked the main dorm for the weekend (7/8) and Chris Alston has booked the hut for the next weekend (14/15). Veterans in Sefton are back (18-20) and then Dave Atkinson’s Club Meet is on the last weekend (28/29). The hut is usually empty during the week, so why not spend a quiet few days when all the crowds have gone. As ever, email me (or Steve G if I don’t reply) if you want to book.

Beudy bookings update

Morning all I’m back in wifi land so thought I’d update you on bookings at Beudy. Plenty of space for the rest of this month. Surprisingly, there is not one single booking for the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend. In September, the hut is not busy at all for the first two weeks but is fairly full for the rest of the month. October is quite busy at weekends but there is plenty of room midweek and the weekend of the 21st/22nd. Check the bookings calendar on the website for full details. As ever, let me know if you want to book. Thanks Bill

Beudy bookings update

OK – so you’re not in Ailefroide enjoying all that Alpine stuff. Instead, come and savour the delights of Snowdonia! After the weekend of 12/13 August, Beudy is available for you, your friends and families the rest of the month. Prime time, including the Bank Holiday weekend. Not only that, the first two weekends in September are free. What’s stopping you? Surely not money – at £8 a night for Members and Under 18s it’s not going to break the bank. Why not have a Mums/Dads/Kids break for a few days – and if you go midweek you’ll probably have the place to yourselves. Me and Steve are by the laptop, anticipating the rush!

High Moss 18-20 August joint meet with Karabiner MC

This rubbish weather can’t last much longer, surely?!? We have a joint meet with the Karabiner MC 18-20 August, we will be hosting them at our High Moss hut. Please let me know if you’re thinking of coming along and I’ll add you to the meet’s WhatsApp group. There will be a communal meal on the Saturday evening, if you’re coming please let me know if Veggie or Meat eater. There’s already 11 KMC members signed up, it would be good to have some RC names down too, to help with the catering and knowing there will be some ‘locals’ to help show the ‘visitors’ around. Thanks, Gareth (PS if you are looking me up in the Handbook to get in touch, there’s two Gareth Williams’s, and I’m Gareth R Williams).

Tougher than usual Wednesday Walk

The Wednesday walk this week (9th August) is an extended Chew Valley Skyline and a bit longer and tougher than the usual. It’s 14.5 miles long and includes 3100ft of ascent so will need a start time of 9:30. The route is described in the calendar entry here For anyone wanting a later start or a shorter route, a 10:00 start is possible and the two groups can meet up at the top of Alderman’s Edge.  This variant is also detailed in the calendar entry, I’d suggest contacting me (Ian) or Gary Bunting as per handbook if you’re doing this variant and want to meet up. N.B.: It is one of the finest walks in the peak (my humble opinion) and contains two of the best view points – it’s also bog-free! gpx files of the full route and the shorter variant are available – contact either myself or Gary.

Call for photos for the 2024 calendar

Doesn’t time fly! It’s already fast approaching calendar composition time (to get it on the shelves for November we need to go to print in September)! Please have a rummage through your photos and send me your best shots… As usual, I need pictures from the last year (Sept 2022 to August 2023), Landscape format, featuring or taken by a Club member (ideally both!) involved in some “Get Out There!” action (could be climbing, mountaineering, hill walking, running, cycling, paddling, you name it!). Extra points if you are wearing a “Get Out There!” garment. Please email High Res versions to me at dominic@oughton.uk.com and change the file name to: Month – SHORT Caption. Credit eg July – Jake Oughton on Minus One Direct. Photo Dominic Oughton Closing date 31 August Once again we’ll be raising the profile of the Club at the same time as raising funds for Climbers Against Cancer to invest in Cancer Research. What’s not to like! I’m looking forward to an avalanche of emails – meanwhile here are a few pics from last year’s calendar to inspire you. Cheers, Dom
