16 – 21 October
Rum is an absolutely fabulous island. There have been a number of memorable
meets there over the years, the last of which was five years ago when we had glorious
weather and stayed in the brand‐new Rum Bunkhouse situated on the north shore of
Kinloch Bay.
Whilst we hope for similar weather again, my intention is to try a camping and
bothy trip this time. There are a number of great bothies on Rum, Dibidil and Guirdil
being two that stand out and also camping at Harris Bay, where there is no bothy but a
great camping spot in the vicinity of the spectacular Harris Mausoleum.
I am intentionally going to leave the more detailed itinerary until much near the
time, being tide and weather dependent, but hopefully we can have a couple of nights
at Dibidil before moving further west. My plan would be to try and ascend all the main,
and some of the lower, Rum peaks along the way.
The intended ferry departs Mallaig on Wednesday morning 16 October and arrives
back in Mallaig on Monday afternoon 21 October. However, there are ferries every day
except Tuesday and Thursday so if a shorter trip is more your thing, then alternative
plans can be made.
A number of people have already shown interest in the meet and if you would like
to be added to the list at this stage, please let me know and I can keep you updated as
plans develop.
John Patrick is keeping Craigallen free for the evening before the meet on 15th and
for our planned return on the 21st.
