New meet: Cairngorms. Sunday 1st October – Friday 6th October 2023

The Skye (GBMH) meet for 2023 has been cancelled as interest in it has declined to a low level, making it not viable as a club meet. However, the good news is that Gill has stepped forward to organised a replacement. The replacement meet will be at the Cairngorm Club hut, Muir Cottage, Inverey, Aberdeenshire from 1-6 October (5 nights). Come along and do your own thing – there’s plenty to go at. Within a 12-mile radius, there are 37 Munros, 8 Corbetts and a Graham. There are many sub-600 m Marilyns (for those so inclined) around Aberdeenshire, Angus and Moray, and literally dozens of excellent low level walks. There’s also climbing up in the hills, at the Pass of Ballater and at the coast, plus brilliant mountain biking on the hill paths and tracks and new purpose-built MTB trails around Tarland, going up onto Pressendye. Details of Muir Cottage are at https://www.cairngormclub.org.uk/muircottage/muircottage. The location is OS grid reference 076896, 1.5 km downstream from Linn o’ Dee and 8.5 km from Braemar. There are 18 places available at a cost of £12 per night, so the cost will be £60 per person. It should be noted that everyone would need[…]

Skye Meet GBMH 1-7 Oct 22

The annual Skye meet is 1 to 7 October this year spending 6 nights in the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut at a cost of £120 (£20 pppn). At the moment there are plenty of spaces spare but they can’t be guaranteed for the club for much longer as confrontational payment is required soon. If you’ve been meaning to book but haven’t got round to (or haven’t received an email asking you to confirm) or would like to come and enjoy the many highlights of Skye and the isolation of Glen Brittle then please contact me (as per the hand book) ASAP. As well as the Cuillin there is much else to do on Skye – walking at all grades, cycling, climbing, kayaking, scrambling, chilling, etc. Gary Bunting

Sea Kayaking around Holy Island – consultation on Morlais Marine Licence Application

For those who aren’t aware of this, there is a proposal to build a tidal power plant off Holy Island (Anglesey) – which as planned will curtail / change sea paddling there. If you have kayaked off Anglesey last year please complete the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YFX7S85?fbclid=IwAR1XLXWFqTOF9K_A2FzhBp3fjKb6NkwQJPJIaWV7X2lLndnyMB-3vyMjlDI For more info look at: https://www.snowdoniacanoeclub.org/single-post/2019/12/18/Morlais—Marine-license-application

Skye Meet 28/9 to 4/10 2019

As usual the Skye meet is at the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut. The deadline for confirming the hut booking is at the end of June – at the moment we are 6 short of filling the hut – so it looks like I’ll have to cut back the booking to only the number that have confirmed they are coming. (I’ve sent an email to those who’ve already booked asking them to confirm). The consequences of not filling the hut are: * The cost for the 6 nights goes up to £90 each. (£72 each was for taking the whole hut). * I’m asking for a deposit of £45. (As there isn’t a waiting list people who book and cancel later will still have to pay the full amount if there is no one to take their place.) * We won’t be guaranteed to have exclusive use of the hut, or that any later bookings will be available. So if you are thinking of coming to enjoy the highlights of Skye then don’t delay and contact me now. Gary Bunting
