Chamonix Weekender - Mark Jenneson / Phil Smith / Richard Clegg
For over 20 years the three of us (well mainly Phil) have obsessed over a single
winter route in Chamonix. During that time, we have had a number of trips winter
climbing in Chamonix, but weather, conditions and fitness have never aligned for us.
So we have come up with what is probably a preposterous idea for a meet. A long
weekend in Chamonix and a fixation on a single route. The chances of conditions and
weather windows aligning? Probably only 50% but as Del Boy says ‘He who dares
Rodders, He who dares’.
So we are going to Chamonix and have decided to make it into a meet. We will be
in Chamonix climbing Thursday 14th (arriving early morning) until Sunday 17th (leaving
in the evening) and we plan to stay at the ski station. I am afraid the meet is very
much a social meet and members need to plan their own activities during the day, be
that skiing, climbing, touring etc.
So after all this, you are probably thinking, wow this must be a great route, are
they planning to climb Beyond Good and Evil? Unfortunately not, that is far beyond
our capabilities, the route in question is Fil a Plomb.
