Update on Hut use and reducing the risk of respiratory infections, including Covid 19; December 2022
Huts provide communal living in relatively confined spaces, so increasing the risk of acquiring, and spreading, respiratory infections including flu and Covid. As Government advice notes: “…there are actions we can all take to reduce the risk of catching Covid-19 and passing it on to others. These actions will help reduce the spread of other respiratory infections such as flu which, along with Covid-19, can cause serious illness in some people…”.
So, when booking and visiting Rucksack Club huts please ensure:
- You contact the hut warden to check availability and get a confirmed booking.
No one must visit a hut without a confirmed booking.
This is necessary to allow wardens to contact others who have booked to use the hut if needed; - Do not visit a hut if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as Covid-19 or flu, a high temperature and/or do not feel well enough to carry out normal activities;
- Whilst staying in a hut with others present, please keep it well ventilated and maintain good hygiene, all huts have ample sanitisers available for use;
- If you develop any symptoms suggestive of a respiratory tract infection, including Covid-19 or flu whilst staying at a hut, then please clean, disinfect and ventilate the hut and then leave. Please ensure all windows and doors are closed before leaving. Let the warden know immediately so that other users and those with forthcoming bookings can be advised;
- In line with current Government advice, the Club expects all those visiting our huts to be fully vaccinated.
In summary, if feeling unwell please avoid, or leave, our huts to reduce the risk of spreading infections to others.
Thanks to all members and guests in anticipation of your understanding and consideration.
Andy Tomlinson, President, 1 December 2022
