Meets Calendar

The Rucksack Club is privileged to have one of the biggest and most varied programme of meets of any British mountaineering club. Our outdoor meets programme has over 50 meets (weekends or longer) throughout the year. We have a regular programme of Wednesday evening climbing – outdoor during the summer months and indoor during winter – and there is a very active Wednesday Walkers group. In the winter months we have a regular mid-week indoor lecture programme from both members and invited national and international speakers.

  • Lowstern Hut Weekend Yorkshire
    All day
    02/02/2024-04/02/2024

    2 – 4 February

    Co-ordinator – Mike Gregg

I’m hoping for a repeat of last year when the combination of location, weather and  people made for a great meet. I can reliably promise at least one of these this year and  an opportunity to cave, cycle, climb, run or walk based at Lowstern, Clapham, on the  edge of both the Dales and Bowland, in a modern hut with central heating and log fire.  I’ll have a couple of walks up my sleeve in case you can’t decide what to do. Let me  know by close of play on Tuesday 30 January if you plan to come, whether you need a  bed, and whether you want a meal on Saturday night (Caroline’s cheese & onion pie).  Hut details, and location, can be found at:

I’m planning to complete the Outside Hope Valley Rpund (20miles/32km,4490ft/1360m). It is a mixture of footpaths and bridleways taking in Lead Mill, Shatton Moor, Mam Tor and a few other climbs on the way. I am planning on running the loop but at a very steady pace Outside shop Hathersage (230 815) leaving at 10am. Speedy runners are very welcome to have a longer lie-in and say hello as they pass.

Rae is planning to walk the loop leaving from the same place but at 8am. A well earned visit to the Outside cafe is planned afterwards. Please let me know a couple of days before if you will be joining Rae or myself.
